We know how brands matter in more ways than simply creating an impression. It’s about building recognition, credibility, and uniqueness. At Varga Girl Design, we take the branding game to higher levels — even when it’s for an April Fool’s campaign.

The April Fool’s Project

Promise Gluten Free – An Ireland-based bakery of high-end Gluten-free bread wanted to come to Canada with a big media bang. As part of the event and PR extended team, we helped the them create a ‘fake’, one-day restaurant from the ground up as part of their April Fool’s campaign. The idea was to ‘fool’ consumers into trying gluten free bread without knowing the difference and we went to extreme lengths to make that happen. We went as far as creating a fake sandwich shop at one of Toronto’s busiest high end food halls. The branding had to be highly convincing for the joke to work.

We developed everything from the logo, brand guidelines, taglines and customer experience to all other branding assets. We created banners, brochures, and promotional tent cars. We designed graphics for their social media and built a website, reinforcing the digital presence of the one-day sandwich shop — everything to create a real sense of branding for the customers.

The most challenging part is this: we needed to finish the deliverables within an insanely tight deadline of just one month.

In the end, we all hit a bullseye with the ‘Grand Gluten-Free Switcheroo’ Our client wrote about this project on Clutch, an independent B2B ratings and reviews platform.

“They made the temporary company look like a legitimate business that was meant to be permanent… Even though the company was fake, it looked truly convincing and professional.”

— CEO, Boutique Luxury Concierge Service

In the end, the company generated great publicity of over 100 earned media hits for the project.

That’s how we do it at Varga Girl Design. We create unique branding that appeals to customers, even when it’s only temporary.
